The organisation of football in Pakistan is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegation based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.
At the top of the hierarchy is the Pakistan Premier League, which is the highest level of Pakistani football. It comprises 12 professional clubs vying for the title of Pakistan's champion. The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Football Federation League, which also includes 12 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Pakistan Premier League, while the bottom three descend to the PFF League B Division.
The PFF League B Division, the third tier, hosts 8 teams. The top two teams are promoted to the Football Federation League. Below the PFF League B Division, there are other levels of competition, but they are not officially recognised by the Pakistan Football Federation.
In addition to these leagues, there are also regional and provincial football competitions in Pakistan, which play a significant role in grassroots football development. These competitions allow young talents to be noticed and progress through the ranks of Pakistani football.
