Organisation of Football in the Czech Republic

The organisation of football in the Czech Republic is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegation based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Fortuna Liga, which is the highest level of Czech football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of champions of the Czech Republic. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the FNL, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Fortuna Liga, while the bottom three descend to the ČFL/MSFL.

The ČFL/MSFL, the third tier, hosts 32 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the FNL, and the bottom four are relegated to the Divize. This level is subdivided into four groups of 16 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the ČFL/MSFL and the Krajský přebor.

The Krajský přebor, the fifth level of Czech football, is organised into 14 regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Krajský přebor, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Czech football at all levels of competition.
