The organisation of football in DR Congo is structured around a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to progress or regress based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professional football to amateur football.
At the top of the hierarchy is the Linafoot, which is the highest level of Congolese football. It comprises 16 professional clubs that compete for the title of champion of DR Congo. The poorly ranked clubs at the end of the season are relegated to the League 2, which also includes a number of clubs. The best of League 2 are promoted to Linafoot, while the least performing ones can be relegated to the Provincial Division 1.
The Provincial Division 1, the third level of Congolese football, is organised by the provincial leagues. The best-ranked clubs can be promoted to League 2, while the least performing ones can be relegated to the Provincial Division 2.
The Provincial Division 2 is the fourth level of football in DR Congo. It is also organised by the provincial leagues. The best-ranked clubs can be promoted to Provincial Division 1.
Beyond the Provincial Division 2, the system continues with lower divisions organised by the provincial leagues, highlighting the depth and richness of Congolese football at all levels of competition.
