The organisation of football in Albania is structured according to a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professional football to amateur football.
At the top of the hierarchy is the Superliga, which is the highest level of Albanian football. It comprises 10 professional clubs that compete for the title of Albanian champion. The bottom two clubs in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Kategoria e Parë, which also includes 20 clubs. The top two from the Kategoria e Parë are promoted to the Superliga, while the bottom three are relegated to the Kategoria e Dytë.
The Kategoria e Dytë, the third level of Albanian football, hosts 24 clubs, mainly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the Kategoria e Parë, and the bottom four are relegated to the Kategoria e Tretë. This level is subdivided into several groups, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the Kategoria e Dytë.
The Kategoria e Tretë, the fourth level of Albanian football, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams of professional clubs. Beyond the Kategoria e Tretë, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Albanian football at all levels of competition.
