Organisation of Football in Vietnam

The organisation of football in Vietnam is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or be relegated based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the V.League 1, which is the highest level of Vietnamese football. It comprises 14 professional clubs vying for the title of Vietnam champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the V.League 2, which also includes 14 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to V.League 1, while the bottom three descend to the Vietnamese National Football Second League.

The Vietnamese National Football Second League, the third tier, hosts 16 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to V.League 2, and the bottom four are relegated to the Vietnamese National Football Third League. This tier is subdivided into two groups of 8 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the Vietnamese National Football Second League and the Vietnamese National Football Third League.

The Vietnamese National Football Third League, the fourth tier of Vietnamese football, is organised into two regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Vietnamese National Football Third League, the system continues with regional and provincial divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Vietnamese football at all levels of competition.
