Organisation of Football in the United Arab Emirates

The organisation of football in the United Arab Emirates is structured according to a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to rise in rank or suffer relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the UAE Pro League, which is the highest level of football in the United Arab Emirates. It brings together 14 professional clubs vying for the title of UAE champion. The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the UAE First Division League, which also comprises 14 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the UAE Pro League, while the bottom three descend into the UAE Second Division League.

The UAE Second Division League, the third tier, hosts 12 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the UAE First Division League, and the bottom three are relegated to the UAE Third Division League. This level is subdivided into two groups of 6 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the UAE Second Division League and the UAE Fourth Division League.

The UAE Fourth Division League, the fourth level of football in the United Arab Emirates, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the UAE Fourth Division League, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of football in the United Arab Emirates at all levels of competition.
