Organisation of Football in Turkey

The organisation of football in Turkey is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Süper Lig, which is the highest level of Turkish football. It comprises 21 professional clubs vying for the title of champions of Turkey. The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the TFF 1. Lig, which also includes 18 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Süper Lig, while the bottom three descend to the TFF 2. Lig.

The TFF 2. Lig, the third tier, hosts 36 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the TFF 1. Lig, and the bottom three are relegated to the TFF 3. Lig. This level is subdivided into two groups of 18 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the TFF 2. Lig and the Bölgesel Amatör Lig.

The Bölgesel Amatör Lig, the fifth level of Turkish football, is organised into 12 regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Bölgesel Amatör Lig, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Turkish football at all levels of competition.
