Organisation of Football in Slovakia

The organisation of football in Slovakia is structured into several tiers, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performance. This structure spans from professional football to amateur football.

At the pinnacle of the hierarchy is the Fortuna Liga, which is the highest level of Slovak football. It comprises 12 professional clubs vying for the title of Slovak champion. The bottom two clubs in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the 2. Liga, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two from the 2. Liga are promoted to the Fortuna Liga, while the bottom three are relegated to the 3. Liga.

The 3. Liga, the third tier of Slovak football, is subdivided into four regional divisions. The champions of each division are promoted to the 2. Liga, while the bottom teams from each division are relegated to the 4. Liga.

The 4. Liga, the fourth tier of Slovak football, is organised into eight regional divisions. The champions of each division are promoted to the 3. Liga. Beyond the 4. Liga, the system continues with regional and county divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Slovak football at all levels of competition.

Tiers 5 to 8 are made up of the 5. Liga, 6. Liga, 7. Liga and 8. Liga, which are organised by regional leagues. These tiers are primarily composed of amateur and semi-professional clubs.
