Organisation of Football in Serbia

The organisation of football in Serbia is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or be relegated based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the SuperLiga, which is the highest level of Serbian football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Serbian champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Prva Liga Srbija, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the SuperLiga, while the bottom four descend to the Srpska Liga.

The Srpska Liga, the third tier, is divided into four regional divisions: Belgrade, East, West, and Vojvodina. Each division includes 16 teams, primarily semi-professional. The champions of each division are promoted to the Prva Liga Srbija, while the bottom three from each division are relegated to the Zona Liga.

The Zona Liga, the fourth tier of Serbian football, is organised into nine regional divisions. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Zona Liga, the system continues with district divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Serbian football at all levels of competition.
