Organisation of Football in Saudi Arabia

The organisation of football in Saudi Arabia is structured according to a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Saudi Professional League, which is the highest tier of Saudi football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Saudi Arabia's champion. The bottom three teams in the ranking at the end of the season are relegated to the Prince Mohammad bin Salman League, which also includes 20 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Saudi Professional League, while the bottom four descend to the Saudi Second Division.

The Saudi Second Division, the third tier, hosts 20 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the Prince Mohammad bin Salman League, and the bottom four are relegated to the Saudi Third Division. This level is subdivided into four groups of 10 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the Saudi Second Division and the Saudi Fourth Division.

The Saudi Fourth Division, the fifth tier of Saudi football, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Saudi Fourth Division, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Saudi football at all levels of competition.
