Organisation of Football in San Marino

The organisation of football in San Marino is structured in a relatively simple manner, due to the small size of the country. Football in San Marino is primarily amateur, with only one professional league.

The pinnacle of the San Marino football hierarchy is occupied by the Campionato Sammarinese, which is the country's only professional league. It consists of 15 clubs vying for the title of San Marino champion. The competition system is somewhat unique: the 15 teams are divided into two groups (Girone A and Girone B) each playing a double round-robin tournament. The top three teams from each group then qualify for a direct elimination play-off phase to determine the champion.

Beneath the Campionato Sammarinese, there is no formal league system. However, San Marino clubs also participate in the Coppa Titano, a direct elimination competition that is open to all teams in the country. Moreover, the winner of the Coppa Titano qualifies for the UEFA Europa League.

Due to the small size of San Marino, there is no system of promotion and relegation between leagues, as is the case in most other countries. Nevertheless, football in San Marino remains competitive and exciting, with numerous local clubs battling for national glory each season.
