Organisation of Football in Poland

The organisation of football in Poland is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or face relegation based on their performance. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Ekstraklasa, which is the highest level of Polish football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Polish champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the I liga, which also includes 18 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Ekstraklasa, while the bottom four descend to the II liga.

The II liga, the third tier, hosts 18 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the I liga, and the bottom three are relegated to the III liga. This level is subdivided into four groups of 18 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the II liga and the IV liga.

The IV liga, the fifth level of Polish football, is organised into 21 regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the IV liga, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, down to the Klasa B, which is the fifteenth and final level of Polish football, underscoring the depth and richness of Polish football at all levels of competition.
