Organisation of Football in Mozambique

The organisation of football in Mozambique is structured around a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professional football to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Moçambola, which is the highest level of Mozambican football. It comprises 16 professional clubs that compete for the title of Mozambique champion. The poorly ranked clubs at the end of the season are relegated to the Segunda Divisão, which is the second level of football in Mozambique.

The Segunda Divisão is subdivided into three regional groups (North, Centre, and South), each comprising a certain number of clubs. The top clubs from each group are promoted to the Moçambola, while the poorly ranked clubs may be relegated to lower levels, organised at the provincial level.

Beyond the Segunda Divisão, the league system continues with provincial and district divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Mozambican football at all levels of competition.

The lower levels are made up of provincial and district leagues, which are organised by the respective provincial and district football associations.
