Organisation of Football in Lebanon

The organisation of football in Lebanon is based on a hierarchical league system, which allows clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Lebanese Premier League, which is the highest level of Lebanese football. It comprises 12 professional clubs that compete for the title of Lebanon's champion. The bottom three teams in the league at the end of the season are relegated to the Lebanese Second Division, which also includes 12 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Premier League, while the bottom three descend to the Lebanese Third Division.

The Lebanese Third Division, the third tier, hosts 15 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to the Second Division, and the bottom three are relegated to the Lebanese Fourth Division. This tier is subdivided into two groups of 8 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the Third Division and the Lebanese Fifth Division.

The Lebanese Fifth Division, the fifth tier of Lebanese football, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Fifth Division, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Lebanese football at all levels of competition.
