The organisation of football in Ethiopia is structured into several tiers, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performance. This structure is divided into three main levels, ranging from professional football to amateur football.

The Ethiopian Higher League, the second tier of Ethiopian football, is a semi-professional league. The best-ranked clubs at the end of the season are promoted to the Ethiopian Premier League, while the poorly ranked clubs are relegated to the Ethiopian First Division.

The Ethiopian First Division, the third tier of Ethiopian football, is an amateur league. The best-ranked clubs at the end of the season are promoted to the Ethiopian Higher League.
