Organisation of Football in Egypt

The organisation of football in Egypt is based on a hierarchical league system, which allows clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Egyptian Premier League, which is the highest level of Egyptian football. It comprises 18 professional clubs that vie for the title of Egyptian champions. The bottom three teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Egyptian Second Division, which also includes 18 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Premier League, while the bottom three descend to the Egyptian Third Division.

The Egyptian Third Division, the third tier, hosts 135 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top teams are promoted to the Second Division. Beyond the Third Division, the system continues with regional and local divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Egyptian football at all levels of competition.
