Organisation of Football in Denmark

The organisation of football in Denmark is based on a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performance. This structure is divided into several tiers, ranging from professional to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Superligaen, which is the highest level of Danish football. It comprises 12 professional clubs vying for the title of Danish champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the 1. Division, which also includes 12 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Superligaen, while the bottom three descend to the 2. Division.

The 2. Division, the third tier, hosts 12 teams. The top two teams are promoted to the 1. Division, and the bottom three are relegated to the Danmarksserien. This tier is subdivided into four groups of 14 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the 2. Division and the Kvalifikationsligaen.

The Kvalifikationsligaen, the fifth tier of Danish football, is organised into three regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond the Kvalifikationsligaen, the system continues with regional and local divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Danish football at all levels of competition.
