The organisation of football in Botswana is structured into several levels, allowing clubs to ascend or descend based on their performance. This structure spans from professional football to amateur football.

At the apex of the hierarchy is the Botswana Premier League, which represents the highest level of football in Botswana. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Botswana's champion. The bottom two clubs in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the First Division North and First Division South, which respectively consist of 12 and 13 clubs. The top two teams from each division are promoted to the Botswana Premier League.

The Second Division North and Second Division South, the third tier of football in Botswana, host mainly amateur clubs. The top-performing teams are promoted to the First Division North and First Division South, and the bottom teams are relegated to the Regional Leagues. This level is subdivided into several regional groups, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with the Second Division North and Second Division South.

The Regional Leagues, the fourth tier of football in Botswana, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional clubs.
