Organisation of Football in Belarus

The organisation of football in Belarus is structured according to a hierarchical league system, allowing clubs to ascend or be relegated based on their performance. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professional football to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Belarusian Premier League, which is the highest level of Belarusian football. It comprises 16 professional clubs vying for the title of Belarusian champion. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Belarusian First League, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to the Premier League, while the bottom three descend to the Belarusian Second League.

The Belarusian Second League, the third tier, hosts a variable number of teams, primarily semi-professional. The best teams are promoted to the First League. Below the Second League, there are several regional leagues that constitute the lower levels of Belarusian football.

In addition to these leagues, there is also a Belarusian Cup, a knockout competition open to all clubs in the country, regardless of their division. This competition offers the winner a place in the UEFA Europa League.
